Overview of Direct Numerical Simulation of Particle Entrainment in Turbulent Flows

An overview of removal and re-entrainment of particles in turbulent flows is presented. The procedure for the direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the Navier-Stokes equation via a pseudospectral method for simulating the instantaneous fluid velocity field is described. Particle removal mechanisms in turbulent flows in a duct are examined and effects of the near-wall coherent eddies on the parti...

Lattice Boltzmann Method for Turbulent Heat Transfer in Wavy Channel Flows

The hydrodynamic and thermal lattice Boltzmann methods are applied to investigate the turbulent convective heat transfer in the wavy channel flows. In this study, the turbulent phenomena are modeling by large-eddy simulations with the Smagorinsky model. As a benchmark, the laminar and turbulent backward-facing step flows are simulated first. The results give good agreement with other numerical ...

Numerical Modeling of Fine Particle Fractal Aggregates in Turbulent Flow

A method for prediction of fine particle transport in a turbulent flow is proposed, the interaction between particles and fluid is studied numerically, and fractal agglomerate of fine particles is analyzed using Taylor-expansion moment method. The paper provides a better understanding of fine particle dynamics in the evolved flows.
